Ideas & Creation

I started thinking this was ideas vs. creation, but they are too connected to be fighting like that. The biggest point being that it is usually much easier to have the ideas than actually carrying out those ideas into a physical creation.

Some days the mind is grinding on the ideas; so many, so fast, but no way in hell of ever getting them on paper. Other days, I just need something repetitive that doesn’t require thinking; clipping parts from sprues, putting together boxes, folding instructions. Where does blog writing fall on that list?

Starting with the short list, what projects are taking shape for BSC? Stuff on the desk, and on the short list:

  • D&RGW 71k Series (HO scale):

    • Wire grab bodies are printed, solid grab options are early in test print

    • Test decals are printed, and first set is on body as of today. Artwork now needs minor adjustments, and organization to make kit-level sheets.

HO scale D&RGW 71k Series Body in test decals

  • D&RGW 43k (40ft) kit assembly (HO Scale):

    • Restocking the As-Built wire grab kits (bodies printed, decals printed this week)

    • Adding the Late (1940+) wire grab kits to the lineup (bodies printed, new car-specific / easy multiple number decal artwork is started)

  • Mid-Era D&RGW GS Gondolas (1926 - 1945 Round Herald) (HO Scale)

    • Car CAD work is done for 40k, 43k, 45k, & 70k cars (car features & brake changes)

    • Test decals are printed, and some test cars were painted up in mineral red and decaled last week

  • Paint Stands (2-56 threads, so HO scale - ish?)

    • Have had some good comments on my in-shop paint stands, so doing a run to see how they will sell. Uses a 2-56 threaded rod to screw into car bolster, and a 1/4 inch nyloc nut to tighten against the bolster to keep tight.

    • Some production testing, issues with bad (old) CA glue and threaded rod, but at a point of creating instruction sheets and box labels, and then listing for sale.

The pile of ideas will show up in a future post, it’s going to take a bit more work to get listed here. (opens scroll, end falls on floor and rolls out the door…)
